Description
The Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Centre, a cultural complex designed by Zaha Hadid Architects, is a marvelous cultural complex situated on Zhongxin Lake in the Jinwan District of Zhuhai. The Aviation New Town, with its roots in the project, roots the city as a new civil and cultural landmark.
Structure & Materials
The structure is built up with a lightweight, latticed steel roof that covers the site with very few structural supports, creating shaded areas in the public space and providing more architectural expression to the structure. Facades, glazes, and metal systems regulate day lighting control, durability, and aesthetics.
Public Experience
The complex is raised higher than the lake and reached by bridges and landscaped walks, which promote interaction between architecture, water, and public space. The activities are taken outdoors in outdoor plazas as well as amphitheaters.
Project Significance
The Zhuhai Jinwan Civic Art Centre is one of the modern cultural landmark structures that has been built with a parametric design with expressive metal frameworks and multi-functional civic areas to contribute to the long term urban and cultural development of Zhuhai.
