                    What Is Laser Cutting Technology?

Sheet metal laser cutting process technology is a sheet metal cutting process performed by using laser technology, which can generate heat at an extremely high temperature, that can burn through the metal sheet to achieve an efficient and precise cutting process. As the material is cut without touch and cutting blade, so this ensures no contamination from something else touching it, and also ensures no deformation occurs. Laser cutting is a accurate and clean cutting because it’s a non-touch process type. It’s a cost-effective type of process as it requires lower power than other cutting ways.

                    Laser Cutting Technology

When the stainless steel or other metal sheets are being cut by laser beam, it generates enormous energy to intensely focus on the material, which is melt or evaporate under the high temperature, and then is blew away by the high-pressure gas flow. The laser beam creates powerful energy to form a cutting gap on the material. A laser beam can perform many different types of cutting, the edge of cutting can be formed according to the laser beam, and It can achieve a precise result. Such a process can cut materials with a wide range of thickness from extra-thin to 1.18” (30mm).

The stainless steel sheet is cut through by the high-energy laser beam, which can generate heat at an extremely high temperature to burn, melt and evaporate the material, achieving a very precise cut effect. So the patterns of laser cut stainless steel sheets are processed with high efficiency, flexibility, and cost-effectiveness, which can make it with premium quality for applications with high requirements. Below are some benefits of having laser cut stainless steel sheets.

                      Accuracy

Stainless steal sheets cut by laser beam are incomparably accurate, the laser cutting processes a fine finish with clean cut edges. Laser cutting machines can be programmed to transform the complex design graphics into exquisite geometric patterns. The cut edges are clean and smooth without any debris or burrs as the material in the cutting path is burned, melted, and evaporated. This precise process can reduce defect rate and prevent scraped products during fabrication, so that can ensure the laser cutting stainless steel with high quality and low cost.

                      High Efficiency

Cutting stainless steel sheet by laser beam can be done at high speeds. When processing material with a range of thickness from extra-thin to 1.18” (30mm), laser beam performs the cutting process is much quicker than other methods. When metal fabricators have the proper type of laser cutting facility, they can provide the highest speeds to improve their manufacturing efficiency. Whether the scales of your cutting operations are small or large, laser cutting will not let you disappointed.

Frequently Asked Questions about Laser Cut Stainless Steel Sheet

When it comes to laser cutting, there are a lot of myths and misconceptions floating around. In this blog post, we will dispel some of the most common myths about laser cut stainless steel sheet and provide valuable information about this process. So, if you’re curious about laser cutting or just want to learn more about it, read on!

The cutting quality of sheet metal is affected by a number of parameters. Unlike other cutting methods, laser cutting is a stable and precise process. It also requires very little manpower. Additionally, here are some of other reasons why laser cutting is used so extensively in the metal industry. All these factors contribute to its success in the fabrication industry.

Both CO2 and fiber lasers can cut through stainless steel, but one uses more energy, whereas the other does not. Regardless of which type is used, laser cutting leaves small dross on the underside of the sheet. Moreover, both types of lasers require large amounts of nitrogen, which increases in cost as the thickness of the sheet increases.

Laser cutting is not the most expensive cutting technology, but it is still cheaper than many other cutting technologies in some cases. However, there are some important factors to keep in mind before making a choice. If you don’t plan on producing large quantities of parts, laser cutting will probably not save you much money.

Laser cutting is one of the precise cutting methods. However, which method is best depends on several technical factors, including the quality of cut, tolerance, and production speed. Waterjet is another accurate cutting process for cutting stainless steel sheets. These methods provide a high degree of precision and excellent surface quality.

In terms of precision, laser cutting offers a cutting width of less than one millimeter, minimising material loss. The excellent cut surface quality of a stainless steel sheet makes this process highly sought after. Laser cutting’s capacity is limited by thermal stress, which occurs when complex profiles are created. Gas-assist technologies, however, minimize thermal stress and maintain a clean surface.

Stainless steel is commonly used in the manufacturing of automobiles, working machinery, and appliances, as well as in related industries. While stainless steel has historically been used in industrial manufacturing, small businesses are increasingly finding uses for it in other applications. Stainless steel can be custom-sized to fit any project’s specifications, including thickness, length, and width. By using a high-precision laser cutting machine, it can be precisely cut to fit your exact specifications.

The material’s high-quality surface and consistency in internal contents are essential for the quality of the end result. Stainless steel is a very important engineering material but cutting it by oxy-fuel methods is problematic due to the formation of oxides. Stainless steel is one of the few engineering materials that can be laser cut. In this study, we evaluated the optimum laser cutting parameters for 1.2 mm austenitic stainless steel using a pulsed Nd-YAG laser beam and nitrogen or oxygen as an assistant gas.

While most fabrics are suitable for laser cutting, a few types of materials should not be cut using this technique. These include carbon fiber and fiberglass, both of which emit toxic fumes and can lead to fires. Furthermore, some materials may not cut well with laser technology, such as plastic coated fabrics, because these absorb infrared rays and result in inefficient cutting. However, if you are confident that the ventilation system in your work area will vent the fumes, you can go ahead and cut your fabric.
