bu Sidra Medical & Research Centre is a groundbreaking new medical facility located in Doha, Qatar. The design features distinctive ceramic tile and glass cladding, highlighting dedicated entrances for various medical services. The facility will feature a Patient Electronically Accessible Record for Life. The medical center will also feature state-of-the-art IT applications. In addition, the building will utilize wireless and paperless technologies.
The architecture firm, Pelli Clarke Pelli, is responsible for the project. The initial clinical planning for the facility was completed in late 2005, and the design was unveiled in early 2007. The building’s schematic design was completed in summer 2008, and the construction contract was awarded to a consortium of Obrascon Huarte Lain and Contrack. The company that produced the space programmers and engineers was also a part of the consortium. The Qatar Petroleum / ASTAD serves as client representative.
The design of the building is inspired by the sails of dhows, which are traditional wooden boats used by pearl divers and fishermen in Qatar. Similarly, the architectural metalwork was designed to be aesthetically appealing while also reducing cost. Although the structure is made up of a series of tubes, the overall appearance is organic and unpretentious. The resulting steel tree structure will measure over 40m in length and 30m in width.
The design of the Sidra Medical and Research Center demonstrates a progressive approach to acute care hospitals. It incorporates the latest technology in several modes, including those used for patient care. For example, the technology could be used to operate building systems, design the building, and even help visitors learn about the medical center. This technology could be combined on a fiber-optic cable for transmission throughout the entire building.
This hospital holds 380 beds and incorporates a healing garden atrium that serves as a wayfinding landmark. A glass-enclosed elevator lobbie overlooks the lobby atrium and provides a calm place to rest. Throughout the facility, patients’ rooms look out onto expansive healing gardens with plants and trees. The design is flexible enough to add as many as 120 additional patient rooms.
TBK'lar paslanmaz çelik kaplama panels, paslanmaz çelik sütun kapakları, paslanmaz çelik korkuluk, and bollards are normally prefabricated in the workshop before shipping to the site. Installation is ideal for a TBK’s field team. In this case, the metal panels were fabricated in separate parts, shipped to Doha, and assembled at the site by local Qatari installers. After the panels were assembled, they were then crane-lifted to the site. The entire structure combines a wide range of modern technology and traditional craftsmanship.
