Project Details
Project: Dalian International Conference Center
Location: Dalian, China
Products: The interior and exterior walls and roof of the building adopt a double-layer facade wall structure, with perforated metal facade on the outdoors and glass facade or metal facade on the indoor surface
Description
The Dalian International Conference Center is a spectacular convention and performance center situated in the eastern part of the People’s Road that links the financial and business center of Dalian, facing the sea and supported by the city center- a convergence of city and nature. The venue reflects contemporary design, flowing sea-related architecture, and human-oriented and energy-efficient design.
Architectural & Spatial Concept
The interior design area of the building is about 14,000 m², whereas the overall project is 58 m high, approximately 215 m east-west and 225 m north-south, and its total size is 146,819 m². The plot size is about 4.35 hectares. The language of design gets its inspiration from the sea wave-forms and fluid motions are then converted to curves in the exterior and interior spaces, giving it the feeling of movement and modernity.
Material & Interior Design Strategy
The interior design is very faithful to the modern, flowing, and technological style of the architecture. Some of the materials include STO crystal-acoustic paneling, Knauf partition wall system, fire-resistant soft wall coverings, furniture by Baijiang, and theatre seats by Changcheng. The use of the double-curved shape of walls and ceilings in the spatial layout also recaptures the wave-like shape of the exterior to enhance the concept of city-by-the-sea.
Awards & Recognition
The project has gained a lot of recognition in design. It was a winner of the China Interior Design Association (CIDA) Public Space-Cultural Space Award 2013, the Asia-Pacific Interior Design Awards (APIDA) Bronze Award, the Futian District cultural and exhibition enterprise First Prize of the Tian Gong Award to the creative work, the Golden Hall Award the China Interior Design Annual Top Ten Public Space Design, and the 2014 Golden Bund Award in the Shanghai International Architecture and Interior Design Festival.
